Cereals we should’ve had during childhood
by Felicia
When I was a kid, I looked forward to having cereals — it was my main joy whenever I woke up in the morning. The sugary treats was a bribe from my parents to get me to go to school without whining. But me being the naughty kid, after school I would snack on them, without adding milk. Can you blame me? They’re delicious and crunchy. My favourite cereal of choice was Trix. Oh that delicious colourful fruity cereal, with the happiest bunny on the box.
However, as I moved on to my high-school days, I don’t remember having Trix around. I often wondered what happened to that happy bunny, how I’ve missed it. Then I realised, they’ve stopped production for that particular cereal in Malaysia, not sure why though. But I do see it in videos when American Youtubers vlog their grocery shopping session. Which infuriated me. Why didn’t Malaysia have any supply of Trix?
Then, one fine day strolling around Jaya Grocer. As I walked the cereal isle, examining every cereals available, there it was, a familiar box, a familiar smile, a familiar bunny. It was my friend, it was my happy bunny. It was Trix. I was the happiest I could be, just as happy as the bunny on the box. I bought it and I had no regrets.
That was the adventure of me reuniting with my favourite childhood cereal. However, as I was strolling Jaya Grocer that one fine day, I discovered many delicious American brand cereals that we Malaysian kids missed out on in our childhood.
1. Cap’n Crunch’s Peanut Butter Crunch
This cereal speaks by itself through it’s name, it’s crunchy and it tastes like peanut butter. Even though it’s just as delicious to be eaten by itself, it’s even more enjoyable when added with milk. Give the cereal a little time to infuse into the milk, then take a big spoonful of cereal and milk. It tastes like the best cold peanut butter milk.
2. Lucky Charms
This wonderful cereal is famous amongst young kids in America. The cereal is made up of toasted oats, and marshmallow pieces — which is the magical ingredient in the cereal. It’s mostly favoured amongst children because of the unique ingredient, and when you let the milk and the marshmallow pieces infuse together, the marshmallow pieces would melt in your mouth.
3. Frosted Cheerios
Arguably, frosted cheerios taste like cardboard, but only when eaten dry. But when eaten with milk, the frosty bits of the cheerios makes it taste that much better than the original flavoured Cheerios. Plus, this cereal is considered a healthy one as well.
4. Cap’n Crunch Sprinkled Donut Crunch
The aesthetic of this cereal is the typical o-shaped cereal with colourful sprinkles all over it, similar to a sprinkled donut, but a miniature version. When infused with milk, this cereal tastes like cake as it’s sweet and decadent.
5. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the kind of cereal that is compulsory to be eaten with milk. As in, it would be disrespectful if eaten otherwise, to the creators of the cereal and to the cereal itself. The milk brings out the delightful taste of the cinnamon. Sweet taste aside, the cereal has a yummy smell to it as well as tasting sweet and smelling sweet.
